Yamanashi Prefectural Fuji Yusui no Sato Aquarium
Located inside Sakana Park in Oshino Village, about a 20-minute drive from the villa, this is one of Japan’s few aquariums dedicated entirely to freshwater fish. Rather than the flashy marine displays found at typical aquariums, it offers a quieter, more refined atmosphere centered on the clear spring water of Mt. Fuji — so clear that the fish appear almost suspended in mid-air.
The centerpiece double-layered tank lets you view large fish such as sturgeon alongside smaller native species at the same time, and a large glass wall looks directly out onto the adjoining pond, creating the illusion of standing underwater within the surrounding forest. It’s a relaxing, low-key stop that works well as a break from more crowded sightseeing spots, and is especially good for families traveling with children, or for a rainy-day activity when outdoor plans aren’t possible.
